Twentynine Palms serves as the gateway community to The Mojave Desert National Preserve. The Preserve is administered by the National Park Service and offers a 1.6 million acres of sand dunes, volcanic cinder cones, Joshua tree forests, and desert wildflowers. Three of Four of North America’s major deserts intersect at Mojave. Located between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, Mojave Desert is home to a diverse desert landscape full of Kelso Dunes and Joshua Trees and wildlife like Mojave rattlesnakes, scorpions, and a variety of rodenta. Be ready for the heat in The Summer as The Mojave has record temperatures during summer months. The I-5S Scenic Detour is just an hour jaunt off of your trip between L.A. and Vegas and offers a great taste of the Mojave Desert.
